KYLIE RELEASE PARTY : Pop Rocks!
Bar 13 / New York, NY / May 24, 2007

Signing books!Every Thursday, Spin Cycle NYC puts on an all-pop-music gay dance party called Pop Rocks! that has always been my favorite dance night in New York. Each week has a theme, usually with giveaways, and when I approached them in early 2007 with the idea of throwing a Straight Road to Kylie release party, they were all for it. And so it was decided. May 24th, book giveaways, and TWO STRAIGHT HOURS OF ALL-KYLIE MUSIC!!!!

I won't go into too much mind-numbing detail about the party, but I definitely wanna give you the highlights!

*Hearing songs like "Butterfly," "Cruise Control," "On a Night Like This," and "In Your Eyes" on an American dance floor. Truly unheard of, and so exciting!
Me and the Pop Rocks! DJ, Kylie release party

*Meeting and talking with the amazing DJ (Photo on the right, thanks to Zailen.com), who told me he had "enough Kylie to go all night!" He really blended each song so seamlessly into the next, and kept the music going strong all night.

*Being told that said amazing DJ had to "slow it down" toward the end of the Kylie portion of the evening, because the downstairs (main) dance floor was emptying out, in favor of ours! Woot!

*Signing and handing out upwards of 70 copies of the book, meeting all sorts of cool people (including a guy who flew to London for the same Kylie tour I did!), and trying my damndest for witty inscriptions galore.

*Having the best friends and sisters ever, who handed out books for me when I was exhausted and tore-up at 2am, and then seeing it illustrated online for me the next week!

*All my 40 or so friends who made the trip to celebrate with me—some from as close as a few blocks away, some from as far away as Tampa, Orlando, and Washington, D.C.

*The fact that the Kylie night upstairs seemed to turn to a Madonna party downstairs at the end of the night, since they played like three of her songs ("Hung Up," "Jump," and "Music Inferno (live) in half an hour.

*Watching my little sister get drunk and punchy—literally! Because when a friend of the DJ's—who was a former backup dancer for Janet Jackson—told me and Katherine he also danced for David Bowie, she gave him a pretty major "No way!" punch in the arm.

*Being shamelessly promoted by my older sister—who danced holding the three-foot Straight Road to Kylie poster above her head—on our way out for the night.
