ABOUT : BILLY

Billy Merrell and I have been together since our sophomore year at the University of Florida. We'd met the summer before, at a Fourth of July party. I was wearing a tight ribbed purple shirt, so for some reason he assumed I was a whore. Charming, right? Ha! So, long story short, after meeting in July, and Billy dating some guy, and then me dating some guy, and a very long eight months of flirtation, we got together in March. I can't believe it, but this March will mark our sixth anniversary.

Billy was born on January 7, 1982, in St. Louis, Missouri. After a move to Mobile, AL, he eventually ended up in Jacksonville, Florida, where he lived till going to college at UF.

His first book, a poetry memoir titled Talking in the Dark, was released in 2003, during his senior year, and in 2004, he moved to New York City to work toward his MFA in Poetry at Columbia University (which he now has—yay!). While in New York, he co-edited (with David Levithan) a personal-nonfiction anthology of GLBTQS youth called The Full Spectrum (Knopf, 2006), which received a Lambda Literary Award.

You can visit him at Myspace at myspace.com/billymerrell, though he never checks or updates it. (It's so aggravating! But he'll get better.) You could also check him out online at talkinginthedark.com.

I'd say more, but I don't want to embarrass him.

And I'll have him make some Top Five Lists soon! :-)
